New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani’s apparent victory in New York City’s Democrat mayoral primary has sparked a national conversation surrounding what it would mean for the future of the Big Apple – and the Democrat Party – were the Democrat Socialist party member to get elected in November.
Among the things he’s pledged to do if elected are rent freezes, city-owned grocery stores, raising the minimum wage to $30 by 2030, and “Trump-proofing” NYC, which would include ending all cooperation with ICE and “strengthening” Resistance efforts on behalf of illegal immigrants.
“He’ll ensure our immigrant New Yorkers are protected by strengthening our sanctuary city apparatus: getting ICE out of all City facilities and ending any cooperation, increasing legal support, and protecting all personal data,” it was noted on Mamdani’s platform page.
