New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: My Mom Jayne, Squid Game, Smoke + More
The latest season of Squid Game on Netflix signals the end of this chapter of the show, although there are hints of a possible spinoff in the works from the series creators. Meanwhile, HBO Max viewers can delve into Mariska Hargitay’s touching documentary My Mom Jayne, which explores the life of her late mother, Jayne Mansfield, a Hollywood actress she unfortunately never had the chance to know. For those seeking an adrenaline rush, the debut of Smoke on Apple TV+ promises intrigue as Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett team up as detectives to track down a serial arsonist.
Mariska Hargitay’s mother, the legendary actress Jayne Mansfield, passed away when Mariska was just a young child. Although Jayne left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry, her absence created a void in Mariska’s life. In the new HBO Max documentary My Mom Jayne, Mariska Hargitay reflects on the accomplishments and legacy of the mother she never had the opportunity to know intimately, both in her personal life and professional career.
New on Netflix June 27: Squid Game (Season 3)
Season three of Squid Game picks up after Player 456, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), has learned the real identity of The Front Man and has vowed to take this game down once and for all. Over the course of the show’s final six episodes, which are out on Friday, Gi-hun and his fellow survivors will do whatever it takes to outwit the Front Man and end the game that has tormented them for the past three seasons.
New on Apple TV+ June 27: Smoke
Writer Dennis Lehane authored books like Shutter Island, Mystic River, and Gone, Baby Gone, and has written TV shows like Black Bird, Boardwalk Empire, and Mr. Mercedes. His latest project, Smoke, reunites him with Black Bird star Taron Egerton, who plays an arson investigator who reluctantly teams up with a police detective to solve the case of a serial arsonist in the Pacific Northwest. The series premieres on Friday.
