(NEXSTAR) — Bell Sports is recalling thousands of children’s bicycle helmets (and some adult ones) in the U.S. over concerns that they don’t meet the impact requirements set by the federal government. The helmets could potentially fail to protect wearers’ heads in the event of a crash, according to the recall.
Customers should stop using the recalled helmets immediately.
The recalled helmets were sold at numerous retailers, including Walmart, Target and Academy Sport + Outdoors. They were also sold online at Amazon and Fred Meyer, in addition to both Academy and Target’s online stores. The helmets were available for sale from September 2024 through May 2025 and cost about $20.

Consumers with the recalled helmets should contact Bell Sports for a full refund, which the company says will entail destroying the recalled helmet by cutting its straps off and then sending a photo in for proof. The company says it’s contacting known buyers directly.
