RUSSELL COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Several counties in northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia are under flash flood advisories or warnings through Friday night into early Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for northeast Carter County, west central Johnson County, and northwestern Sullivan County until 1 a.m. in Tennessee.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory warning for Buchanan, Russell (until 12:30 a.m.), Tazewell, and Washington (until 2:15 a.m.) counties in Virginia.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Smyth and Tazewell counties in the state of Virginia.
The Russell County Sheriff’s Office is asking motorists to avoid US-19 near the Belfast area.
The sheriff’s office said on social media:
Motorists are advised to steer clear of US 19, as mudslides and flooding have been reported, specifically around Cross over B (Belfast Area, and near the old Bob’s barbecue) Please use caution.
