Snezana Calic is a cook, culinary content creator, MasterChef Australia star, food educator, and former finance professional turned full-time food creative. She competed in MasterChef Australia Season 16 in 2024 and MasterChef Australia Season 17 (MasterChef Australia: Back to Win) in 2025. She placed 15th on Season 16.
MasterChef Australia changed Snezana’s life. Since her maiden season, Snezana has worked in a restaurant kitchen to broaden her skills and cooked at pop-up dining events across Melbourne. She has hosted cooking demos and lessons and begun work on a cookbook set to feature Mediterranean and Serbian style recipes. Snezana has also kept busy creating mouth-watering, fun online content, full of recipes, tips, hints and hacks for home cooks, coming straight from her gorgeous home kitchen.
Born in Croatia, Snezana moved to Serbia as a child because of the war. She grew up with both Mediterranean flavours and heartier style Serbian dishes. Her Mum Mira is an incredible cook, and Snezana shares that she always has at least three meals on offer, even for a quick visit.
Snezana started cooking at the tender age of 7, learning her skills in the kitchen from observing her Mum over the years and heavily inspired by traditional Serbian culture. Showing her love through food to her own family now, she cooks for husband Aleks, daughter Lenka and son Lazar. The extended family are also a big bunch of foodies, and Snezana is proud that her own daughter is showing a keen interest.
After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Belgrade in Serbia, Snezana followed family to Australia in 2009. Despite the geographical distance from her parents and siblings, Snežana found solace in the warmth of her extended Serbian family and friends.
“I was born in Croatia and then because of the war we moved to Serbia, and that’s where I studied. My parents came here (to Australia) much earlier but since I studied in Serbia, I took Serbian citizenship and couldn’t come on that refugee program. So I came much later than my parents,” Snezana told SBS Serbian.
