CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation and the Holocaust Education Center are hosting a pop-up art exhibit on Auschwitz.

The exhibit — found at McKinley Presbyterian Church on U of I’s campus — features 24 panels and 60 pieces of art made by survivors of Auschwitz.

All of the art at the exhibit is on loan from the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Poland. The current pop-up tour is the first time the exhibit is being displayed outside of Europe.

“It’s not just about Judaism, it’s about genocide and the power of hatred but also the power of tolerance and how we learn about that,” said Brian Kahn, a volunteer with the Holocaust Education Center.

Each panel takes you through a different experience of life in the concentration camp, from arrival and work to punishment and execution.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum doesn’t allow photography of the artwork, but the C-U Jewish Federation invites you to come see the powerful images for yourself.

The exhibit remains on display through Sunday. It is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
