SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Police Department is still investigating a hit and run that occurred Friday night, as a person who was hit by a car of their bicycle sustained “severe” injuries.

According to Lt. Scott Ligon, Springfield Police received a call at approximately 10:39 p.m. on June 27 and were dispatched to the 1800 block of S 13th St. for the report of a pedestrian hit by a car. On scene, officers spoke with witnesses who said a vehicle was chasing a person on a bike.

The vehicle turned northbound into an alley in this area, sped up, and hit a person off their bike. The driver of the vehicle then proceeded to flee the scene.

The victim was then transported to a local hospital by ambulance with severe, but not critical injuries.

At this time, the investigation is still active and ongoing so there is no further information available.
