Veteran Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has tackled young Nigerians — especially men — who use age as a weapon of insult.
Henshaw recently shared a video on her social media account where she criticized the practice of using the term “old” to mock women. She referred to this as an outdated and ignorant method of mockery.
“It’s always the young men,” she said. “When they want to insult you, the first thing is to call you ‘old woman.’ Is that supposed to hurt me?”
The actress questioned the logic behind it all, especially since many of the same people wish others long life on their birthdays.
“Do you people want to die young? Because you wish people long life, yet you use age as an insult. Make it make sense.”
Kate added that ageing is a gift that many don’t get to experience — and those who shame others for growing older have clearly missed the point.
“Nobody can shame me. Ageing is a privilege. The peace and confidence that comes with age? That’s real freedom.”
She encouraged Nigerians to drop the age-shaming mindset, adding that growing older is not just natural — it’s powerful.
