Kimberly Guilfoyle is preparing to face an intense grilling from Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which will decide if she becomes the next US ambassador to Greece.

Those close to the former Fox News star and familiar with the Senate proceedings say they wouldn’t be surprised if the hearing were to veer off-topic into her personal life.

Guilfoyle, 56, is bracing to potentially have her past relationships dragged back into the public eye during her confirmation hearing. This could include her broken-off engagement to Donald Trump Jr., 47, and her five-year marriage to Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom, 57.

Some insiders float that there are wild cards on the Democratic side of the Senate Foreign Relations committee who could try to throw off the entire hearing.

White House sources say they expect Guilfoyle’s hearing to occur next month with the panel, and so far, not a single Republican has voiced opposition to her appointment, meaning her confirmation – even if turbulent – will likely go through.

A source close to Guilfoyle told the Daily Mail that, since her nomination, she has been preparing for her new role.

‘Kimberly is poised to be the belle of the Mediterranean,’ they said. ‘She’s been preparing for months studying the culture, the current geopolitical landscape, and doing what she does best – building relationships.’

The source added: ‘She has connected with the embassy for logistics and they have a jam-packed schedule for her upon arrival. I have no doubt that when Greece meets Guilfoyle, fireworks will fly.’

Guilfoyle and Donald Trump Jr. broke off their engagement last fall – and in December it was announced she would be nominated as ambassador to Greece

Guilfoyle did not respond to the Daily Mail’s request for comment on how she is preparing to face a barrage of inquiries from Democrats that might encroach on her personal life.

On December 10, 2024, Guilfoyle expressed her gratitude to Trump after he published his intent to nominate her to the ambassadorship. 

‘I’m honored to accept President Trump’s nomination to serve as the next Ambassador to Greece and I look forward to earning the support of the US Senate,’ she wrote on X.

‘It was the democratic values born in Greece that helped shape the founding of America,’ Guilfoyle added. ‘And now, we have an opportunity to honor that history by bringing better days here at home and abroad.’

The usual turnaround time for hearing schedules is two business weeks after all paperwork is received by the committee, though this can vary depending on multiple factors.

This paperwork includes an ethics report as well as a resume, background and financial disclosures. Some of these applications are more complicated than others, mostly when it comes to looking at the nominee’s assets and background work.

President Biden’s ambassador to Greece, George Tsunis, wasn’t confirmed by the Senate until the second year of his term. And while Guilfoyle’s hearing has not yet been put on the schedule, it’s expected to happen in July.

Guilfoyle had a public break-up with President Trump’s eldest son last year after he was caught gallivanting around southern Florida with his now-girlfriend Bettina Anderson, 38.

Multiple sources told the Daily Mail that they tried to stop Don Jr. from dating the Palm Beach socialite and claimed she was a social ladder climber. The two have been together since at least September 2024.

But those in Palm Beach circles say that Don Jr.’s kids are not a fan of Anderson and still opt to spend time with Guilfoyle, who was with their father for years and, up until last year, was engaged to be married.

Don Jr.’s ex-wife Vanessa, 47, with whom he shares five children, is now dating golf star Tiger Woods, the Daily Mail exclusively reported earlier this year.

Shortly after news broke that Guilfoyle’s relationship was over with Don Jr. and following the November presidential election, then-President-elect Trump announced that he was appointing her to the ambassador post.

Don Jr., in a sign that there is no love-lost between the two, posted his congratulations to Guilfoyle, writing on X at the time: ‘I am so proud of Kimberly. She loves America and she always has wanted to serve the country as an Ambassador. She will be an amazing leader for America First.’

Guilfoyle was married to Gov. Newsom from 2001 until 2006, during which time she was first lady of San Francisco while her then-husband served as mayor of the liberal West Coast city.

She then worked at Fox News from 2006 to 2018, and was most known for her role co-hosting The Five.

After leaving the right-leaning network, she joined the pro-Trump super PAC America First Policies and worked to campaign for Republicans in the 2018 midterm elections.

Some claim that Trump’s nominees have stalled in the Senate due to the chamber’s focus on the president’s Big Beautiful Bill.

‘Congress is laser focused on passing the President’s OBBB, nominations are being sent to the floor as quickly as possible and the appointees are ready to get to work,’ a person familiar with the process told The Daily Mail.

‘The administration hopes to get this key piece of legislation passed so everyone can continue to facilitate the President’s agenda,’ they added.

A spokesperson for Republicans on the Foreign Relations Committee insisted: ‘The committee has been moving at a record breaking pace on confirmations.’

Earlier this month, Ivanka Trump’s father-in-law Charles Kushner was sworn in as the new ambassador to France and Monaco.

A day later, Edward Walsh was sworn in as the US ambassador to Ireland as part of the first swath of ambassadors confirmed to their posts under Trump.

‘The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has now passed 43 nominees, and we will continue to work at this quick pace to ensure President Trump and Secretary Rubio have the team that they need,’ said Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Jim Risch, who will oversee Guilfoyle’s nomination.
