ACSO deputies shoot burglary suspect brandishing machete, gun; SLED investigating

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. () – The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has requested the
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to investigate an officer-involved shooting
that occurred Sunday morning.

Around 10:30 AM, Aiken County dispatch received a call reporting a burglary in progress at 821 Old Barnwell Road in Aiken.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered a white male suspect who fled the scene on foot, heading toward Old Barnwell Road.

During the pursuit, the suspect presented both a machete and a firearm.

In response, deputies discharged their firearms, striking the suspect.

Life-saving measures were immediately initiated by the deputies and Aiken County EMS, who
transported the suspect to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Aaron Stevenson of Aiken.

Stevenson is facing charges of Burglary in the First Degree, Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, and two counts of Second-Degree Assault and Battery.
