SAVOY, Ill. (WCIA) — D-Day Veteran and current Savoy resident Duane “Harvey” Hodges celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday.

Family and friends gathered to honor the veteran whose birthday bash featured a band playing old chart-toppers and even a 21-gun salute from fellow servicemen.

Some of his favorite memories include meeting his wife, travelling the world with her and joining car clubs.

In 100 years, he has amassed a lot of wisdom and hopes people don’t take their time for granted.

“Places you want to go, people you want to see, especially someone that you really want to see, go see them now because things happen and they won’t be there when you think you have time for them,” Hodges said.

Hodges urges people — if they have a bucket list — to knock out the tasks they really want to do as soon as they can.

“Don’t postpone,” Hodges said.
