Maggie May rocker Sir Rod Stewart will take to the Pyramid Stage for his legends slot at Glastonbury Festival this afternoon, having last headlined the iconic event more than twenty years ago. While he has been in poor health recently, cancelling a string of concerts due to the flu, the 80-year-old has assured fans he’s well enough to perform at the Somerset festival, and he’s been busy rehearsing.

Ahead of his 90-minute set, his wife Penny Lancaster shared a tongue-in-cheek video with her Instagram followers, which was later reposted by Sir Rod. In the clip, Penny is at the front of the shot in focus, reading her new book, Someone Like Me, to promote it. Her blonde locks are curled to perfection while she is sitting down, reading, while wearing a casual pink t-shirt.

Meanwhile, Sir Rod is working away in the background with his band in rehearsals for his Glastonbury comeback, wearing tight-fitting black trousers and a white shirt, showing off some chest. He’s out of focus as Penny ignores him to continue tucking into her autobiography, which explores the highs and lows in her life, including her IVF journey and relationship with Sir Rod.

She tagged her husband in the clip and wrote: “Go to the link in my bio to pre-order my book.”

Sir Rod’s teatime slot is set to begin at 3.45pm where he’s due to perform an array of classics to hundreds of thousands of festival goers. His concert will also be streamed on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.

Talking to Radio Times, Rod said about Glastonbury: “I’m really looking forward to it. And it is a different gig, it’s like when you’re playing a cup final you’re trying to treat it like another game. But, of course, it’s not. It’s special. It’ll be glamorous, it’ll be sexy. Below is everything to know about the music legend’s Glastonbury performance.”

The Sailing singer said on the That Peter Crouch Podcast he was only due to play for an hour and a quarter on the Pyramid Stage.

He explained: “But I’ve asked them ‘Please, another 15 minutes’ because I play for over two hours every night and it’s nothing.”

Glastonbury can be streamed on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds and it is airing on BBC Two.
