ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The owner of a fireworks business spent much of the start of his Fourth of July week counting his inventory—at least, what’s left of it—following the theft of what he estimated to be more than $85,000 worth of products.

“We’ve had thefts throughout this area over the years,” said Justin Driggers, the owner of Big Bang Fireworks. “A lot of them have been on the bigger side. This is by far the biggest.”

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday that the agency is looking into reports of a burglary at Big Bang’s location on East Colonial Drive.

News 6 was speaking with Driggers when deputies arrived to take his report.

Driggers shared with News 6 a 16 second clip of surveillance video that appears to show a person inside the tent at about 3:30 a.m on Monday. The clip ends with the person putting his hand over the camera. Driggers said he gave the video to deputies.

“I think it’s an organized retail theft,” he said.

Driggers showed News 6 the spot where the person or people responsible cut through protective wiring.

He said that operators for each one of his sites retain private security to monitor activity overnight. It’s unclear how this theft managed to succeed, despite the security believed to be on hand.

Driggers said that several of his sites have been burglarized in the last several years. He has even spotted some of his branded items up for re-sale on social media.

“It’s actually become a big underground business where these organized groups will hit fireworks locations, build their inventory, and sell masses amount of fireworks,” he said.
