SIR KEIR Starmer has offered another major u-turn to Labour welfare rebels just 90 minutes before MPs were due to vote on the controversial plans.

The Prime Minister has ensured that any changes to Personal Independence Payments won’t kick in until a major review has taken place.

Ministers confirmed they have completely abandoned plans to change the criteria for claiming the disability benefits from its proposals.

The intervention came as senior Labour figures were growing increasingly concerned about losing a major vote on benefits this evening.

The changes to the PIP payments was not going to kick in for new claimants until November next year but this could now be delayed further.

Disability Minister Sir Stephen Timms told MPs that the changes will not come in until after his review has concluded in a last-ditch bid to win over rebels.
