One of the longest-running reality TV competition shows is none other than RuPaul’s Drag Race. The series, which sees various drag queens competing head-to-head in a fierce climb to the top, has been airing since 2009, hosted by the iconic RuPaul.

Since the show’s debut, it has become a true staple within the reality TV landscape, producing more than its fair share of iconic (and meme-able) moments that transcend the episodes. The latest example of this comes in the form of a music legend’s incorporation of an iconic line from the show—this past week, it was announced that Cardi B was using the iconic quip as the title of her latest album.

Cardi B’s New Album Title Is ‘Am I The Drama?’

Just this past week, Cardi B announced to her fans that the title of her forthcoming album will be “Am I The Drama?” Fans of Cardi’s will know that she’s no stranger to drama, but the phrase is an allusion to what has since become a viral moment from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

In the All Stars Season 6 season, one of the contestants, drag queen Scarlet Envy, asked a series of questions that very quickly went viral, the sound clip being used on social media in what became an audio trend:

Is it me? Am I the drama? I don’t think I’m the drama… Maybe I am. Am I the villain? I don’t think I’m the villain.

The “drama” that Cardi B’s album title references could refer to any number of things that the rapper has been involved with in recent years. Certainly there are times when it feels like Cardi is always in the headlines for one reason or another, and not all of them are positive reasons, either.

She is, for instance, often feuding with other figures in the music industry, and even those outside of it: more recently, she announced that she had a lawsuit against a blogger worth millions of dollars. In another instance, she even threw her microphone at a fan while in the middle of performing.

Cardi’s Album Title Pays Respect To Scarlet

While some fans have wondered whether using this title was also poking fun at Scarlet Envy, Cardi B has since clarified that her use of the phrase is nothing but complementary of Scarlet. That is, if there is anything sarcastic about the choice of title, Cardi wants it to be clear that she’s simply poking fun at herself and her inability to keep out of media scandals.

In fact, Cardi’s album title announcement came from a former Drag Race contestant, Kandy Muse, at an event at LadyLand Festival in New York City this past Friday, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. It was Kandy who officially welcomed Cardi to the stage, introducing her by saying, “Is it her? Is she the drama? She is an icon, she’s a legend, and she’s a hometown hero, b****! Give it up for the one, the only, the drama, Cardi motherf****** B!”

Through a statement from one of her representatives, Cardi B made it clear that her title was purely “inspiration” from Scarlet and that she was a huge fan of the performer. Her statement even teased the fact that the rapper might continue to be involved with Drag Race opportunities moving forward:

While Cardi’s album inspiration comes from her real-life drama, she loves Scarlet Envy, and they’re in talks to work together soon.

Viewers can only imagine what a collaboration between Cardi and the show would look like in a future episode. Fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race will hopefully be able to see even more iconic moments in the upcoming season. The next competition will be held in Season 19, which officially premieres on September 19th on Paramount+.
