BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. () — The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) reported two deadly drownings in South Carolina this week, in a Facebook post Wednesday.
On Monday shortly after 6:30 p.m., the BCSO responded to a 69-year-old man who drowned on Hilton Head Island at Coligny Beach. A bystander brought the man to shore where a lifeguard then began life-saving measures.
The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office later identified the man as William King. King died at approximately 7:07 p.m. on the scene.
On Tuesday, deputies responded shortly before 5:30 p.m. at Hunting Island when a 65-year-old man was seen floating in the water by a bystander fishing. The bystander brought him to shore and started CPR.
Despite life-saving efforts, both men died. The two victims were both from Georgia.
As the busy Fourth of July weekend approaches, the BCSO cautions all on water safety.
