(KRON) — A 53-year-old Oakland woman accused of being a serial liquor thief was caught with dozens of stolen tequila bottles inside her car that totaled more than $3,000, said the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

SCCSO said Karen Mackey was pulled over last month on Bollinger Road in Cupertino where the 71 bottles of tequila were discovered.

Mackey is tied to a string of retail thefts at several Safeway grocery stores in Santa Clara, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said a records check revealed that Mackey had a $25,000 warrant for grand theft.

“Mobile bar busted,” wrote the sheriff’s office in a social media post. “She tried to take the party to-go, but our deputies brought it to a full stop.”

SCCSO said Mackey was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail Complex on the warrant and for theft with prior convictions.

All of the stolen alcohol was returned to Safeway.
