Since Blue Bloods became so successful, Tom Selleck was willing to shave his iconic mustache for the show and fans wanted to know why Jennifer Esposito left. Despite that, Blue Bloods still came to an end. Thankfully for fans of that hit TV show, it was announced that Blue Bloods was getting a spin-off called Boston Blue.

When the plans for Boston Blue were first announced, most of the discussion was about Donnie Wahlberg headlining the spin-off. However, over time, fans have learned more about Boston Blue, and they have a lot more reasons to be excited about the upcoming series. One example of that is the fact that it was recently revealed that the former star of one of the best shows ever made has joined the cast of Boston Blue.

Boston Blue Added The ER Actor Gloria Reuben To Its Cast

As Blue Bloods fans will already know, one of that show’s greatest strengths was how talented the its cast was. As a result, when it was announced that Blue Bloods was getting a spin-off called Boston Blue, that show needed to accumulate an equally talented cast.

At first, the only actor who was attached to Boston Blue was Donnie Wahlberg, since the spin-off focuses on his Blue Bloods character. Since then, several other actors have been announced to be starring in Boston Blue.

Recently, it was announced that an actor with an incredible filmography will be starring in Boston Blue. Fans have recently learned that Gloria Reuben will be starring in Boston Blue after she previously headlined ER.

Since ER was such an incredibly successful show, it aired for a truly impressive 15 seasons. As a result of that longevity, ER inevitably became less popular and relevant over time. That makes it less remarkable that people like Shane West, Linda Cardellini, and John Stamos starred in ER, since the show wasn’t as noteworthy by their tenures.

However, Gloria was a part of ER pretty much from the show’s start. A recurring guest star during the first season, Gloria was promoted to ER’s main cast for the second season and remained in that position until she left the show following its sixth season.

Not only did Gloria star in ER, she was so great in her role that she was singled out at the time.

As the Television Academy’s official website shows, Gloria was nominated for an Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series Emmy Award twice. As a result of her performance as ER’s Jeanie Boulet, Gloria was nominated for that highly esteemed award in 1997 and 1998.

Thanks to ER’s stellar writing and the show’s incredible cast, it became an absolute sensation after it was released. Not only that, ER is still regarded as one of the best shows in television history more than 25 years after it premiered.

After Gloria Reuben left ER, she continued to have a very successful acting career. For example, Gloria notably had a noteworthy role in the Steven Spielberg’s biopic Lincoln. Gloria also starred in movies like Timecop and Nick of Time. Gloria also recently had major roles in the shows Mr. Robot, City on a Hill, Cloak & Dagger, and Elsbeth.

In December 2023, Variety published their list of the greatest TV shows in history. To be clear, every kind of television show was eligible for this list as shows like The Oprah Winfrey Show, Survivor, and Sesame Street all made the cut. Given how much competition there is, it is truly impressive that Variety named ER as the 34th best show ever produced.

In June 2025, TVLine published an article about Gloria joining the cast of Boston Blue. That article revealed the role that Gloria will be playing in the upcoming spin-off show.

According to TVLine, Gloria will be playing a character on Boston Blue named Mae Silver. Similar to characters from Blue Bloods, Mae will be playing the matriarch of a blended family with several members working in law enforcement in Boston.

TVLine’s article also revealed that Gloria’s character on the spin-off is Boston’s District Attorney. TVLine‘s article also states that Mae is the widow of a judge who was murdered on the courthouse steps.

It has also been revealed that several of Mae’s family members will be a part of Boston Blue’s main cast of characters.

Who Else Has Joined The Cast Of Boston Blue?

In June 2025, Screen Rant published an article about the cast that had been announced for Boston Blue. Of course, that article began by bringing up that Donnie Wahlberg stars in Boston Blue as his Blue Bloods character Danny Reagan. The rest of Screen Rant’s article revealed how important Mae Silver’s family will be to Boston Blue’s story.

After previously starring in Star Trek: Discovery and The Walking Dead, Sonequa Martin-Green will star in Boston Blue as Lena Silver. Set to be Danny Reagan’s new partner, Lena is also the daughter of Gloria’s character.

The legendary actor Ernie Hudson will also be starring in Boston Blue as a character named Reverend Peters. As his name implies, Ernie will be playing a renowned pastor of a Boston church who is also the father of Gloria’s character, according to Variety.

After previously starring in the show Psych, Screen Rant reports that Maggie Lawson will also be starring in Boston Blue. Maggie has been cast as Sarah Silver, the stepdaughter of Gloria’s character.

The final already announced star of Boston Blue is Marcus Sribner, who is best known for starring in Black-ish. Marcus will be portraying Jonah Silver on Boston Blue, the son of Gloria’s character.
