Police said 22-year-old Mikaya Williams pulled the child into her car after he refused to comply. She is now facing first-degree felony kidnapping charges.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 9-year-old boy is safe after he was kidnapped by a woman while selling water on the side of the road last week and then rescued by a Good Samaritan, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Police said Friday, June 27, officers responded to Northwest Jacksonville after a “disturbing” 911 call.

The child was selling water along a roadway when police said a woman stopped and tried to lure the boy into her car. When the child refused, police said the woman, identified as 22-year-old Mikaya Williams, pulled him into the vehicle and drove off.

A family friend of the child witnessed the incident and followed Williams’ car to West 45th Street. When the vehicle stopped, police said the Good Samaritan quickly got the child out of the car and blocked the suspect’s vehicle until officers arrived.

Williams was arrested at the scene and faces kidnapping charges, a first-degree felony. She is being held at the Duval County Jail without bond.

Police said the child was safely reunited with his family.
