VIDEO: 2 injured after fireworks incident on Boone Lake

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Two people were reportedly injured after a fireworks incident at the Boone Lake Marina on Friday night, according to the first responders.

Video provided to News Channel 11 shows multiple fireworks going off at once, close to the lake’s surface.

Viewers told News Channel 11 that first responders were called to the scene.

Sullivan County EMA Director Jim Bean confirmed to News Channel 11 that two people suffered what were described as minor injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.

Piney Flats Volunteer Fire Department Captain Chris Berry also confirmed the two injuries. Berry said the accidental fireworks discharge occurred on a barge, but everyone was able to get off the barge.

Berry said that as of 11 p.m., crews had cleared the scene.

Bean said that the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency responded. The sheriff’s office said it provided assistance but TWRA is handling the incident.
