Storm Team 3: Tracking the Tropics this weekend

This weekend’s main weather driver will be Tropical Storm Chantal, currently circulating just off our coast. It’s expected to make landfall north of us in South Carolina on Sunday. While impacts to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry should remain minimal, we’ll still see increased chances for scattered showers and storms, especially near the coast. Expect gusty winds and a high rip current risk along coastal areas. As the system tracks northward toward Charleston, that area is likely to experience the most significant impacts.

We are Tracking the Tropics in detail here

Looking ahead, our typical summertime pattern returns on Monday, with hot and humid conditions settling in. Highs will climb back into the mid to upper 90s through Wednesday, with a low risk for isolated showers and storms each afternoon.

By the end of the week, expect a higher chance of scattered storms to return as a new front develops to our north.
