TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The death toll continues to climb in Texas Hill Country following a devastating flash flood that hit several summer camps and the surrounding areas.

Officials now said more than 100 people are confirmed dead, including two dozen young campers and counselors in Kerr County, Texas.

A team from Tampa-based Project Dynamo is now on the ground in the area, helping with search and recovery efforts.

“Basically, Project Dynamo brings military precision to humanitarian rescues,” said Project Dynamo President and CEO Mario Duarte.

He is leading a group of former Special Forces operators, Army Rangers and other retired military personnel to help in the Texas Search.

“There is a lot of destruction, devastation along the banks, but we are able to at least move slowly along the river, and it’s probably 20 miles, one way,” Duarte said.

Their hope is to find survivors, although they know the chances of that are growing smaller with each passing hour.

“As long as there is still [an] area that has not been checked, we will be here, making sure if there [are] survivors, we are hoping for miracles still,” Duarte said “We will find them and if not, to report back to make sure the next of kin are notified.”
