ORLANDO, Fla. – We’ve all been there. You pull up to an intersection as a driver and see someone standing at the corner ready to cross. Or you’re the pedestrian, trying to figure out if that car is going to stop or keep rolling. That moment of “who’s going?” or “are they stopping?” can be confusing, even a little awkward!

On today’s Trooper Steve on Patrol live stream, I want to dive into this everyday dance between drivers and pedestrians and talk about something we don’t focus on enough: communication.

Sure, knowing when to yield to pedestrians is the law. It’s one of the biggest ways we prevent crashes in the first place. But let’s not forget that pedestrians have a role to play too. Making eye contact with drivers, giving a clear signal you’re about to cross and staying aware of traffic movement all help make these interactions smoother and safer.

On the flip side, drivers can do their part by slowing down early, clearly yielding when required, and being patient even if you’re in a rush. That little pause can mean the difference between a safe crossing and a dangerous situation.

So today, let’s have a discussion about how we can all do better. Whether you’re on foot or behind the wheel, communication and courtesy at intersections go a long way.

Join me on this Tuesday’s live stream as we break it down and chat about simple ways to keep each other safe out there. Let’s make our roads more predictable, and a lot more friendly!
