Some residents told ABC7 they had never seen so many cars around Glen Ellyn’s Sunset Pool located at 483 Fairview Avenue.
Glen Ellyn police said they first received calls on Saturday at about 5 p.m. of a growing crowd of teens and young adults.
Video of the scene shows a staffer who fell into the pool while trying to talk with some of the visitors as there were complaints about drinking, smoking and unauthorized entrances.
ABC7 blurred the video because it is unknown if anyone seen was criminally charged.
Glen Ellyn Park District’s Executive Director said they closed the pool early on Saturday “due to the disruptive and unsafe behavior of several individuals…We’re currently reviewing the incident internally and assessing any operational adjustments as needed.”
Susan Stott said she lives nearby and her daughter was working on Saturday at the pool.
“I’m sure there’s going to be things moving forward put in place to make sure everyone is safer,” Stott said.
One of the participants told ABC7 it was supposed to be a meet up for college students who were home for the summer but the meet up got bigger and bigger when it was shared on social media.
Glen Ellyn Police reported despite the large crowd, only one person was arrested and charged for illegal use of fireworks.
