Richard Ashcroft on Oasis fan who didn't know ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’

That’s life.

Former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft took to social media to respond to an Oasis fan who didn’t recognize his hit song “Bitter Sweet Symphony.”

The initial incident unfolded Friday, July 4, in Cardiff, Wales, as Ashcroft opened for Oasis before the band’s first show in 16 years.

One person posted on X on Friday about Richard Ashcroft playing Bittersweet Symphony before the Oasis concert. The same person was using Shazam to identify the song in the viral video.

The video showed a young woman in the audience bopping along to The Verve’s 1997 hit while looking up the famous tune on the song-identifier app.

Ashcroft then took to Instagram to “welcome” the Oasis fan in question to his and The Verve’s music.

“Day 2 thanks to everyone who came down and gave such beautiful support for my set,” he wrote on Sunday alongside a clip from his performance. “If you don’t know it Shazam it, all new fans welcome!”

“Love to [Liam Gallagher] for Cast No Shadow, what a tune!” Ashcroft added. “We move on Manchester. Are you ready? Music is Power RA”

Still, the fan caught Shazaming “Bitter Sweet Symphony” during the Cardiff show faced significant backlash from other fans of the disbanded English rock group.

“Very embarrassing,” one person wrote on X after watching the viral clip.

“Wow!” added another. “This is just crazy!”

“She should have been escorted off the premises,” commented a third Ashcroft fan.

However, others supported the Oasis fan and rushed to her defense.

“Not everyone is 50 years old,” one person commented alongside a laughing emoji.

“Everyone has their own music journey,” another wrote, while a third X user added, “So what’s the problem?”

Meanwhile, Ashcroft’s performance at the Principality Stadium on Friday came shortly before Liam and Noel Gallagher took the stage to kick off their first Oasis concert in nearly two decades.

Although the beloved band broke up following a backstage fight between the famous brothers at the Rock en Seine festival in August 2009, they announced last summer that the group was reuniting for an Oasis Live ’25 world tour.

Liam, 52, and Noel, 58, showed unity when they walked out and raised their hands together before jumping into their first song.

They later played some of the group’s biggest hits, including “Wonderwall, “Champagne Supernova” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”

Music industry experts exclusively told The Post that the once-feuding brothers will make at least $200 million from their reunion tour, but fans of the band are just happy that Noel and Liam have reunited.

“This is history,” one person tweeted during the concert, while another added, “A sight I never thought I’d see again.”

Meg Mathews, Noel’s first ex-wife, was caught leaving Oasis’ first reunion concert early. She later took to social media to explain that she left before the four-song encore to beat the crowd.

“And to all the F–king papers I left before the encore as I have left many a stadium at the end and it’s carnage,” she wrote on Instagram. “But yes I could hear Wonderwall as I walked to my car! Happy now..”

Oasis’ reunion tour will continue for several more shows across Britain and Ireland before hitting North America on August 25.
