McCORMICK COUNTY, S.C. () – The McCormick County School District is implementing a new policy ahead of the 2025-2026 school year, as families prepare for the first day of school July 24.

This school year, all students will be required to use clear bookbags in order to “enhance visibility and streamline security procedures.”

Mesh or “solid-colored” backpacks will not be deemed acceptable. Only fully transparent bags will be allowed.

According to the school district, the policy applies to all students and grade levels.

In an effort to prepare students, the school district is also hosting Registration Day on Thursday, July 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the MMS/MHS Gymnasium.

Staff are expected to be on site to assist families as needed.

“Registration Day is an important opportunity for families to get everything in place before
school starts,” said Dr. Jaime Hembree, Superintendent. “We’re especially focused on safety,
readiness, and making sure every student feels prepared and welcome.”
