HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – Chase Michael Coleman, 20, of Branford, was arrested yesterday and charged with grand theft of a firearm after law enforcement received a report that he had pointed a gun at another vehicle on I-75.
At about 12:25 p.m. on July 8, High Springs Police Department units were notified that a Lexus that was reportedly involved in a road rage incident on I-75 was heading northbound on U.S. Hwy 441 into High Springs. The caller reportedly said that the driver of the Lexus had pointed a gun at their vehicle on northbound I-75. Both vehicles reportedly got off at Exit 399 and went north on U.S. Hwy 441.
The Lexus was pulled over near the intersection of U.S. Hwy 441 and High Springs Main Street, and Coleman and his passenger got out of the vehicle. A High Springs Police Department officer reported that Coleman spontaneously said he had a gun and marijuana in the vehicle.
The serial number of the gun matched a firearm that was stolen in Houston.
The officer reported that he had not made contact with the caller since the traffic stop, so no charges were filed for the road rage incident at the time of Coleman’s arrest.
Post Miranda, Coleman reportedly said he received the gun in a trade with his father.
Coleman has been charged with grand theft of a firearm. He has juvenile convictions in 2019 and 2020 but no adult criminal history. Judge Mitchell Bishop set bail at $5,000.
