The deaths of two men whose decomposing bodies were found in an inner-city Sydney home are not believed to be suspicious.

The remains of a 74-year-old and an 83-year-old were found in their Surry Hills home on July 5 after a friend of the woman who also lived there, called police, prompting a welfare check.

Eleanor Barker, 63, had been living with the men before and after their deaths, which police believe were “at different times within the past month”.

Police spoke to Barker but no charges were laid and they said the deaths were “not believed to be suspicious”.

Detectives went door-to-door on Cleveland Street trying to establish a timeline of when the two men were last seen.

Neighbours told 9News they had spoken with Barker in the days before the bodies were discovered and described her as seemingly upbeat and chatty.

“They were both really nice, always passed them on the street, one of the guys used to have a VB long neck out the front there,” neighbour Mitchell Morri said of the men.

Police said the investigation continued and a report would be prepared for the coroner.

“Both men are believed to have died in the house at different times within the past month and their deaths are not believed to be suspicious,” they said, in a statement.

“A 63-year-old woman who lives at the same house has been spoken to by detectives.”
