TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. () — A Toombs County deputy was involved in a crash on July 4 in Hazlehurst, Georgia, that resulted in the death of a teen.
Deputy Devin Spikes notified dispatch his patrol vehicle was involved in a wreck with a dirt bike driven by 19-year-old Jadian Jamire Bouie. Deputy Spikes performed life-saving techniques while a bystander called 911.
Bouie was transported to a hospital where he later died.
A preliminary investigation by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) determined that, after coming to a complete stop at a 4-way intersection, Deputy Spikes proceeded. His vehicle was impacted by the dirt bike driven by Bouie. Based on evidence gathered at the scene, it was determined Bouie was driving above the 25 miles per hour speed limit, failed to stop and failed to yield at the intersection. Based on the damage to the patrol vehicle, the dirt bike and Bouie’s injuries, it was determined Bouie was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.
The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is conducting an investigation.
