The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says Jayman Winn, 30, died just after 11 a.m. Wednesday.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Duval County Jail inmate died at a Jacksonville hospital Wednesday after a medical emergency just before their court appearance, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Jayman Winn, 30, was pronounced dead just after 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to JSO. He was admitted into the jail on Monday on drug charges, JSO said in a news release.
In the early morning hours Wednesday, the release states Winn began to show signs of “medical distress” while being transitioned for a scheduled court appearance.
“Officers in the area, realizing this, immediately reported the medical emergency via the radio,” the release states. “Winn was provided medical aid by on-scene corrections personnel along with jail medical staff.”
According to JSO, Winn was then taken to the jail’s clinic, then members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded and took him to a hospital for continued treatment.
“At this time, there are no known contacts between Mr. Winn and other inmates or officers,” the release states. “This investigation is ongoing, information is being vetted, and interviews are continuing as we await the completion of an autopsy.”
JSO said its cold case unit is leading the investigation, with assistance from the State Attorney’s Office.
