WAYNE COUNTY, Ga. () — The Wayne County Athletic Department will be accepting donations next week on behalf of the victims and families of the floods in Texas.

The school has partnered with the Ausitn Disaster Relief Network and the City Reach Church located in Leander, Texas. Donations will be disbursed to families in need in the Leander and Marble Falls areas of Texas.

The collection point for these donations will be at James E. Bacon Elementary School from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Thursday. Requested donations include nonperishable goods, hygiene products for men and women, cases of water, diapers, generators, weed eaters and chainsaws.

Due to limited storage space, the relief network requested no clothes or blankets be donated at this time.

All athletic programs at Wayne County will have student athletes involved in receiving and loading donations.

A spokesperson for the school said, “The value proposition of this initiative is to allow student-athletes to involve themselves in a component of servant-leadership, also for the community to give back in a time of need in the same way we received help after Hurricane Helene.”
