TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A former Alabama basketball player is set to go to trial before the end of the year regarding a shooting where a young mother was killed two years ago.
Darius Miles, 23, was in court Friday morning, where it was decided that his trial would begin Dec. 1 with jury selection starting sometime in November.
Miles is facing capital murder charges following the death of Jamea Harris, who was shot and killed near The Strip in Tuscaloosa on January 15, 2023 as she sat in a car with her boyfriend, Cedric Johnson. Prosecutors have argued that Johnson and Michael Davis had gotten into a fight in the moments leading up to the shooting and that Miles had allegedly provided the gun Davis used to kill Harris.
Davis has since been convicted in the case and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
During the hearing, Miles’ lawyers were given until Aug. 15 to accept a plea deal or go to trial.
