Multiple people struck by lightning at St. Augustine Pier: SJCFR

Fire rescue crews say one person was flown by helicopter with serious injuries, and two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Three people have been struck by lightning at the St. Augustine Pier, according to fire rescue officials.

Crews from St. Johns County Fire Rescue (SJCFR) and the St. Augustine Fire Department were on scene as of 3:15 p.m. Saturday, actively treating and evacuating patients from the area.

Details are limited at this time, but a spokesperson for SJCFR told First Coast News that three people have been injured. One person was flown by helicopter with serious injuries, and another person was taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries. One person also suffered non life-threatening injuries and refused transport to the hospital.

St. Augustine Beach Mayor Dylan Rumrell says the pier will be closed on Saturday, and officials are asking the public to avoid the area.
