Professional cyclists often lead incredibly disciplined lives, but behind every champion is a reliable support system that keeps them anchored. For Jonas Vingegaard, a two-time Tour de France winner, this support is provided by his wife, Trine Hansen, and their two young children.
While Vingegaard competes against rivals like Tadej Pogačar on the road, his family plays an essential role in his achievements. Recently, they have been a focal point in discussions about balancing elite sports with family life.

Who Is Trine Hansen? The Woman Behind Jonas Vingegaard’s Success
Trine Marie Hansen, 39, is not merely a cycling spouse—she is Vingegaard’s personal manager, confidante, and the stabilizing force in his high-pressure career. The couple, with a nine-year age difference, met before Vingegaard’s rise to fame, and she has been instrumental in helping him cultivate mental resilience.
In a heartfelt interview with Politiken, Trine shared how she helped him overcome anxiety early in his career:
“At one point, we decided to renovate a house together. Jonas realized he could tear down a kitchen, put in a new one, and lay hardwood floors. It was important for us to be equals and do it as a team.”
She believes this hands-on approach helped him gain confidence beyond the bike.
Recently, Trine also made headlines by criticizing Team Visma-Lease a Bike’s rigorous training schedule, saying,
“I’d say Visma is pushing him too hard. I worry he’s burning the candle at both ends.”
She underscored how Vingegaard recharges best at home in Denmark rather than being stuck in a series of altitude camps.
Meet the Vingegaard-Hansen Kids: Sacrifices and Joy
The Vingegaard-Hansen family includes their almost five-year-old daughter Frida and a newborn son, whose arrival in September 2024 took them by surprise since they didn’t find out his gender until the delivery. Balancing parenthood with Vingegaard’s demanding career is no small task, as Trine explained their chaotic routine:
“The kids and I are home for ten days, then we’re away for ten days to be close to Jonas… It’s a wild life.”

Despite the challenges, Trine feels that fatherhood has changed Vingegaard for the better:
“Something amazing happened when he became a dad. Life shifted away from just being about his own needs.”
This new perspective has been crucial for his mental strength while racing.
Recent Controversy: Team vs. Family Priorities
As the 2025 Tour de France approaches, Trine’s comments have stirred up debate about athlete welfare. She argued that Visma’s focus on multiple riders, like Wout van Aert, takes away from Vingegaard’s chances for the general classification, especially when compared to UAE Team Emirates’ focused support for Pogačar.
Visma’s response came from their Head of Racing, Grischa Niermann, who downplayed the situation, claiming that Trine’s concerns were somewhat exaggerated and emphasizing their collaborative planning with the family. Vingegaard himself stayed diplomatic, telling reporters,
“I haven’t read the article… Naturally, it’s tough on family life, but I’m still riding.”
