CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which was signed into law on July 4 by President Donald Trump, is directly affecting farmers in Central Illinois.

They will be able to see higher returns because of increases to safety net programs. The bill also gives them an insurance policy that allows them to be made whole. By utilizing crop insurance as risk management, farmers will be able to earn an income and have peace of mind.

“There are some items that we did get accomplished in there that will be extremely beneficial,” said Clinton Charles, President of Ford Iroquois County Farm Bureau. “However, there are still some facets that, again, because it’s policy, not budgetary, there’s still a few items that we need to work on.”

He continued, saying there is still much to work through in the almost 900-page bill. Charles believes it’s important that farmers understand the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and that they get the right information.
