4 Underrated Netflix Movies You Need to Watch in July 2025

If Netflix didn’t let us know which movies were coming every month, it would be almost impossible to predict the lineup.

In July alone, Netflix has films from the ’70s to the present, most of which are borrowed from other studios.

The Watch With Us team has gone over the new additions and chosen four underrated Netflix movies you need to watch in July.

Our picks include one of Jon Favreau‘s earliest films, a high-caliber action flick, a crime biopic and an underrated sequel.

Jenna Ortega in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

If there’s ever a time to stay home with Netflix instead of braving the heat in theaters, it’s this summer. Thanks to some carefully curated films, Netflix has a handful of blockbuster movies from other studios that still hold up favorably compared to what’s playing this summer. To kick off a new seasonal tradition, the […]

‘Zathura: A Space Adventure’ (2005)

If Zathura seems a lot like an outer space Jumanji, it’s because both stories were written by Chris Van Allsburg. Director Jon Favreau had a real eye for talent here, as he snagged Josh Hutcherson and Kristen Stewart before they went on to larger stardom as they grew up.

After two brothers, Danny (Jonah Bobo) and Walter (Hutcherson), discover an old board game in their house, they discover that it is rewriting reality around them and their sister, Lisa (Stewart). With the family house stuck out in space until the game is finished, the brothers look to an enigmatic astronaut (Dax Shepard) for clues about how to escape.

Zathura: A Space Adventure is streaming on Netflix.

‘Wanted’ (2008)

Wanted only slightly resembles the comic book that inspired it, but this adaptation has some great action and a compelling cast led by James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. McAvoy plays Wesley Gibson, a lowly office drone who is recruited by Fox (Jolie) and Sloan (Freeman) to join the Fraternity, an order of assassins.

A boat flees an attacking monster in 'Godzilla Minus One'

Some of the most critically acclaimed action films of the last decade are available on Netflix right now, from a modern and captivating take on Godzilla to a groundbreaking crime thriller from Dune director Denis Villeneuve. These action movies are about far more than just blowing things up or breaking heads in fight scenes — they use their […]

Wesley has a long way to go before he can become an assassin as well. But as his skills progress, Wesley comes to realize that the Fraternity isn’t as benevolent as he was led to believe. And once Wesley takes out his first target, he may be the next one on the Fraternity’s hit list.

Wanted will stream on Netflix on July 16.

‘Blow’ (2001)

Johnny Depp gives a great performance in Blow as George Jung, a key drug smuggler in the ’70s and ’80s. The film is largely based on Jung’s account of his life, and it even briefly features Ray Liotta as Jung’s father, Fred. Jung starts out as a low-level dealer, but he seems to constantly find new opportunities that lead him deeper into the criminal underworld.

By the time Jung is personally dealing with drug lord Pablo Escobar (Cliff Curtis), there’s no turning back and he doesn’t want to. But Jung underestimates the personal cost of his dark ambitions until the consequences of his actions catch up with him.

Blow is streaming on Netflix.

Dermot Mulroney and Holly Hunter in Copycat

It’s been a somewhat dry year for thrillers on Netflix, but the genre is apparently in season at the beginning of summer! Copycat, a thriller starring Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter, is celebrating its 30th anniversary by breaking into Netflix’s top 10 most popular movies. Netflix is also celebrating the legacy of director Alfred Hitchcock […]

‘Jaws 2’ (1978)

Almost everyone will tell you that the Jaws sequels are inferior to the original. That’s true, but Jaws 2 is easily the best of the three sequels. Plus, it’s hard not to love a film with the following tagline: “Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water.”

After the events of Jaws, Police Chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) is understandably antsy when Amity Island is threatened by another great white shark. Mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) should really know better than to doubt Brody. When the town won’t back him up, Brody will once again have to take matters into his own hands to confront the shark and save his son, Mike (Mark Gruner), from a grizzly end.

Jaws 2 will stream on Netflix on July 15.
