MASCOT, Tenn. (WATE) — According to court records, an FBI agent faces charges including DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, property damage and resisting arrest following a crash in Knox County.
A law enforcement officer responded to Trout Road around 11:35 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a wreck on Shipe Road that damaged a mailbox, court records detailed. When he arrived, he found a man named Mark James Stephenson who allegedly smelled of alcohol and said that two friends had wrecked his vehicle and then taken off, according to court records.
According to the warrant, a witness told the officer that Stephenson had said he had wrecked down the road. The officer tried to read Stephenson his rights, but he became upset and said he was a federal agent with the FBI, which a witness confirmed to the officer.
The officer tried to put Stephenson in handcuffs, but he resisted for several minutes before submitting, according to court records. After getting a search warrant, keys to the crashed truck were found on Stephenson’s person, court records showed.
When asked to confirm Stephenson’s employment, the FBI said, “As a standard practice, the FBI doesn’t confirm employment.”
