AIKEN, SC. () – The 3rd annual Community Baby Shower supports new parents in need by connecting them with helpful resources.

The 3rd annual Community Baby Shower by Rural Health Services, Molina Healthcare, and Bundles of Joy is on Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Women and Children’s Health Center Auditorium in Aiken.

“We want to reach out not just to our patients but to the whole community,” said Anna Huerta, Medicaid Specialist Enrollment. “So, that’s why we really like to have community events, so that, that way if you’re not a patient and you don’t see day to day all the resources that we have.”

This free, first-come, first-served event offers diaper bags with wipes, a raffle for a car seat, stroller, and pack-and-play, as well as a table of free, gently used baby items.

“We just want to be there in the community for the people that need us, and they always say they are pretty happy that we’re here, and we’re always glad to hear that,” said Gail Diggs, Director of Outreach and Community Services.

Rural Health Services provides quality, affordable care at its health center. They serve the uninsured, insured, and private insurance holders, and offer a sliding scale fee.

“In this economy, we see a lot of people struggling to make ends meet.  This is something that can elevate some of the cost that they are having to adjust to,” said Diggs.

They encourage attendees to become patients because they have a diaper room for patients to get 2 diaper sleeves every month.

“New moms that come to the baby shower to maybe sign up to have an appointment so that they can be eligible for not just the diaper bag that they will get at the community baby shower, but you can get one of these every month,” said Huerta

Rural Health Services will also host a Healthy Futures Festival, a back-to-school bash, and a community resource fair on August 9th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
