He faces federal charges for allegedly posing as a tutor online to lure a child for sexual acts.
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A 39-year-old man from Ponte Vedra is being charged with federal crimes after he allegedly posed as a tutor online and attempted to meet with a child for sexual acts, according to a release from United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg.
Kevin Patrick Wilson has been arrested and charged with a criminal complaint with attempted enticement and coercion of a minor.
Court documents show Wilson responded to a Facebook user who posted that they were seeking a tutor for a child. He pretended to be a woman recommending her “husband” as a tutor, providing his own phone number, and the woman texted him saying she was looking for a tutor for an 11-year-old child, according to the release.
Wilson sent a photo of himself and asked for a photo of the child; the poster ended the conversation and contacted the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, the release says.
On July 24, 2024, an undercover detective, pretending to be the guardian of a 12-year-old girl, reached out to Wilson about tutoring services. Wilson began discussing sexual topics involving the supposed 12-year-old girl and talked about meeting up with her for sexual acts.
The undercover detective arranged a meeting between Wilson and the “girl” to engage in sexual acts. When Wilson arrived, he was arrested.
