Boebert on Epstein special counsel: 'This is something we need'

() Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., isn’t backing down in her calls for President Trump’s administration to release the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Appearing on Wednesday’s “On Balance,” Boebert said that Trump having a special counsel is “something we need.”

“Well, there’s certainly some rhetoric that we are hearing about frustrations with the information that was let out,” Boebert said.

“Now I don’t want this to become a false idol for Republicans and something that is going to distract us from the amazing progress that President Trump and his administration have been doing. And so I’m saying, let there be a special counsel to actually get the information that Americans want. If that’s something that ends up taking place in Congress, fine, but I think the American public is also tired of hearing that Congress is going to have a hearing, have an investigation, have a deposition, and really hold somebody accountable.”

The Justice Department and FBI last week said Epstein did not have a client list and confirmed he died by suicide. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who evaded questions about Epstein this week, suggested in February that an Epstein client list was on her desk. She later said she was referring to the overall case file.

Trump has vocally backed Bondi in her handling of the situation, saying, “She has done a really good job,” and that “credibility is very important.” Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Ohio, also responded, saying he “fully supports AG Bondi.”

Boebert, though, isn’t impressed with Bondi’s work. She points out, “there is no defense of this Epstein rollout whatsoever.”

“I’m saying that I want more information to come out of this. Look, I’m not trying to be combative here. I think we’re saying the same thing,” she added.

“People are frustrated. We want to know if there’s more information. I don’t know exactly what Pam Bondi has seen or what she hasn’t seen. I’ve seen just as much that’s been released from her as you have, so what I’m saying is maybe someone else needs to take a look at this.”

Boebert, who is a close ally of Trump, said the special counsel would provide the heavy lifting, in the same way as going forward with a “task force.”

“So the attorney general has set up a Second Amendment task force to go after states with unconstitutional gun laws,” Boebert said. “She’s not handling everything directly herself every minute of the day. And so I think having a special counsel allows someone to actually put their full time and effort into this, so we can move on and get back to President Trump’s amazing victories.”

Boebert acknowledged why the MAGA world is frustrated about Trump’s demeanor. It’s because they value transparency.

“This is something that we thought we could just open up phase one of a binder and get answers, and there hasn’t been a phase two,” Boebert said.

“But I do trust President Trump, I trust the process, and I trust Dan Bongino. He has always been someone that I can count on and rely on.”
