TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The tropical disturbance Invest 93L continues to move away from the Tampa Bay area but plenty of moisture remains in place today for numerous showers and thunderstorms to develop this afternoon.

It’s a dry and sunny start to the day and temperatures will warm to near 92 degrees this afternoon with rain chances increasing to a 70%. Storms develop down south and drift north, especially through the coastal counties between 2 pm and 8 p.m.

There remains a low risk for brief localized flooding with the downpours today. It will be dry and mild tonight with temperatures dropping into the upper 70s.

More of the same on Friday with a bit more scattered activity in the evening and a 50% rain chance.

Much lower rain chances are in the forecast for the weekend with high pressure and drier air building in. Temperatures heat up with highs near 94 and 95° each afternoon and just a 20 to 30% rain chance each day.

Moisture builds back in early next week increasing those rain chances once again.

The tropical disturbance could still develop but it is losing time and remains close to land so chances have lessened for that tropical organization.

The National Hurricane Center now calling for just a 30% chance of development. It is still expected to bring abundant moisture to the northern Gulf Coast with a significant flooding threat, regardless of organization.
