A RECALL for a popular children’s toy has been issued as fears mount it poses a lead poisoning risk.

Parents have been urged to dismantle a specific type of pink bicycle that was sold online at Walmart between August and December 2024.

Shoppers have been ordered to stop using the 14-inch and 18-inch bicycles immediately, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The bikes have brown seat covers, handlebars, pedals and baskets.

It’s feared that the lead in the paint used on the bike’s pumps could poison children.

“Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues,” the CPSC has warned.

Shoppers have been ordered to contact the retailer Shenzhen Yihuachuang Technology to get a full refund.

But, customers must complete three steps before they can get reimbursed.

First, they should dismantle the bike altogether.

Then, they must take a photo before sending an email.

The bike was manufactured in China.

Health chiefs have warned young children are prone to ingesting lead by putting items in their mouths.

Bosses at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have warned the symptoms of lead exposure can be extremely debilitating.

Lead exposure can cause damage to the brain and nervous system.

It can also cause children to experience behavior and learning problems in school.

Children who have been exposed to lead may underperform compared to their peers.

Parents have been warned that the symptoms of lead exposure are not obvious.

One of the consequences of lead exposure is that a child’s blood level can rise.

The CDC has revealed a series of ways how parents can reduce the risk of their child exposing lead.

Parents should hire a professional to remove any peeling or chipped lead paint.

Children should be encouraged to wash their hands regularly.

Holes in walls should be covered by duct tape.

Parents can take their children to a local hospital or doctor’s surgery for a blood test if they are worried they’ve been exposed to lead.
