WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Jonesborough man faces several charges after he allegedly fled from deputies on a motorcycle, dumped it and then reported it missing two days later.

According to a news release from the Washington County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), deputies saw a black motorcycle run a stop sign at the intersection of Old Embreeville Road and Greenwood Drive on Sunday evening.

The motorcyclist evaded deputies and later “dumped the motorcycle, helmet and clothing in a wooded area,” the release states.

The sheriff’s office reports the motorcycle was registered to William Todd Rodefer, 61. Two family members reportedly identified the clothing found in the wooded area as the clothing Rodefer had worn earlier on Sunday.

According to the WCSO, Rodefer came to the sheriff’s office on Tuesday and reported the motorcycle stolen.

Deputies arrived at Rodefer’s home on Tuesday evening and took him into custody. He was charged with the following:

  • Trespass by motor vehicle
  • Felony evading arrest
  • Driving while suspended
  • Stop sign violation
  • False reporting

Rodefer was also served with a warrant for violation of probation when he arrived at the Washington County Detention Center.

As of Thursday, Rodefer was being held on a $21,000 bond and is set to appear in court later in the day for the probation violation charge. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 30 for the other charges he faces.
