McCormick County Sheriff's Office searching for escaped inmate

McCORMICK COUNTY, S.C. () – The McCormick County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday an inmate has escaped custody from its local detention center.

In a message posted to Facebook on July 17, police say the subject has been identified as Karlon N. Wakefield and is from the McCormick area. He is described as being 5’10 and weighing 220 pounds.

“There are many Agencies/Depts engaged in this operation to include SLED; DNR; SCHP; Town PD; Sheriff’s Office and also Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office,” the statement reads in part. “K9’s along with helicopters and also drones are all being utilized and we are focused in the general area of Cherry Street b/t Hammond and South Main.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact 911.

According to the sheriff’s office, a cash reward is being offered “for accurate info leading to pertinent information that secures an arrest.”
