The ex-wife of a beloved UC Berkeley professor is among five charged in the man’s shocking death overseas.

Przemyslaw Jeziorski, 43, on July 4, 2025, was shot to death at close range, not far from the home of his ex-wife in the Athens suburb of Agia Paraskevi, according to CNN. Police in Greece now say they’ve arrested five people in connection with the broad-daylight slaying, including the victim’s ex and her boyfriend.

On Thursday, July 17, 2025, the suspects — none of whom were named by authorities — made their first appearance before a judge, facing charges of intentional homicide, according to the New York Times.

Here’s what we know.

Who was Przemyslaw Jeziorski?

Jeziorski was a Polish-born economist who taught data analytics as a professor of marketing at the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. A statement from the school in response to his death stated he worked there for 13 years, having taught more than 1,500 graduate and PhD students during his time.

Jeziorski and his ex-wife shared a pair of 10-year-old twins, though public records cited by CNN stated the husband filed for divorce in 2021. The San Francisco Chronicle reported they married in 2014.

Jeziorski sought a restraining order against his wife

Court records filed with the Alameda County Superior Court in California show that, in May, Jeziorski sought to obtain a restraining order against his ex-wife on the grounds that she allegedly threatened him and attempted to extort him, as reported by the Chronicle. The order extended to the woman’s boyfriend, whom Jeziorski accused of physical assault in two separate incidents that occurred on May 1, 2024, when Jeziorski was in the Athens area to see the twins.

Jeziorski said that when picking them up, the boyfriend allegedly knocked a phone out of his hand. Later, when dropping the kids off, Jeziorski said he was “not comfortable” leaving his children with the man who had allegedly assaulted him earlier in the day, per the San Francisco outlet.

According to Jeziorski’s report, the boyfriend allegedly came out of the home before pushing and kicking the father of two.

Of his ex-wife, Jeziorski stated in his request for a restraining order, “She made me afraid of my life by having her partner, who is hostile and aggressive towards me, (present) during the visitation exchange, despite my asking her not to do so.”

Jeziorski accused her of refusing to renew the children’s passports, which not only prevented him from seeing them but prevented them from seeing their ailing grandparents in Poland, per the Chronicle

Jeziorski described his ex as a business partner, according to what he wrote in his report. He stated that she allegedly tried to “humiliate me socially in order to control me,” such as when she reportedly threatened to call the cops on him during a UC Berkeley graduation party.

In another instance, Jeziorski alleged his ex demanded he fork over monies related to research papers, lest she contact the heads of the department and paint him as a plagiarist. In response, Jeziorski accused her of “slander.”

“Any small accusation of plagiarism will absolutely destroy my credibility and station in the academic community,” Jeziorski wrote.

At the time of his death, Jeziorski was in Greece — where the ex-wife is reportedly from, according to the New York Times — to see his children and arrange visitation. Per the Chronicle, Jeziorski sought to take the children for part of the summer to visit their grandparents and take a trip to Disneyland in the U.S.

Jeziorski’s close friend, Chemtai Mungo, said the father had expected to do so, per “prior court arrangements,” but that “there was a new dispute that had to be attended to in the courts,” according to ABC News.

Police said a custody hearing took place in court just one day before the shooting, according to CNN

Witnesses told Greek authorities that on July 4, at around 4:15 p.m., a masked gunman “approached the victim on foot and opened fire from close range,” according to CNN. Konstantina Dimoglidou, a police spokesperson, said they found seven 9mm casings at the scene and that the victim sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and chest.

Jeziorski was pronounced dead on the scene, and the triggerman fled on foot.

Greek police stated they identified the vehicle in which the shooter and accomplices rode in, and that two left the scene “without the perpetrator,” according to ABC News. The killer is accused of giving his keys and phone “to his third accomplice” to avoid detection.

Five arrested for the murder

Greek authorities have not released the suspects’ identities, although the names in the restraining order — as published by the San Francisco Chronicle — name the ex-wife as Nadia Michelidaki. The boyfriend named in the complaint is Christos Dounias.

The ex-wife’s lawyer, Alexandros Pasiatas, told Greek outlets his client had nothing to do with the shooting, according to the New York Times. The boyfriend’s attorney, Ermis Papoutsis, claimed his client “accepted responsibility” but did not specify what for.

Three others arrested in connection with the murder include two Albanian nationals, ages 24 and 16, and a 30-year-old Bulgarian. According to CNN, the four male suspects allegedly confessed to their crimes.

Jeziorski’s brother, Lukasz Jeziorski, said in a statement to ABC News that his former sister-in-law was “the orchestrator behind this heinous crime.”

The twin children — who have both U.S. and Polish citizenship — are now in protective custody in Greece, the brother said in a statement to CNN. “Our primary concern is their safety and well-being, and helping them reconnect with their family to minimize the trauma they have already endured.”

The family created a fundraiser to bring Jeziorski’s body back to Poland. In a statement to CNN, relatives said Jeziorski “paid the heaviest price” in the fight for his children.

The five accused are expected to submit their pleas in court on Monday, July 21, 2025.
