BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department have arrested a suspect in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred in the Ensley neighborhood early Thursday morning.
According to the BPD, a passerby discovered a man with an apparent gunshot wound slumped over in an alleyway on 17th Street Ensley Thursday at around 3 a.m. The victim, identified as Corey Lavel Tremble, 38, of Birmingham, died at the scene.
BPD homicide detectives identified the suspect as Julius Earl Johnson, 57, of Birmingham.
Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, and Johnson was issued with a Murder Warrant and a Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm Warrant.
Johnson was taken into custody by BPD’s Crime Reduction Team Friday in the 2200 block of 47th Street Ensley. He is in custody at the Jefferson County Jail.
