PALM HARBOR, Fla. (WFLA) — The Hartley House, a designated historical landmark in Pinellas County, is now being recognized as a crucial piece of Florida’s historical legacy.

On Saturday, community members along with local officials gathered during the Palm Harbor Centennial Festival to dedicate a Florida Historical Marker to the property, recognizing it as a Florida Heritage Site.

The unveiling was sponsored by the Palm Harbor Historical Society, the Pinellas County Historic Preservation Board and the Florida Department of State.

“We are celebrating our history. Pinellas County is 113 years old this year, Palm Harbor, otherwise known as Sutherland in years past, is 100 years old this year and to think that this house is a representation of the past. We have a real treasure now to preserve for all time,” said Brian Scott, chairman of the Pinellas County Commission.

The Palm Harbor Historical Society, which operates the Palm Harbor Museum, is an organization dedicated to collecting and preserving the historical heritage of the Palm Harbor area.
