Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to work towards a peace resolution for Ukraine, although the primary aim remains realizing Moscow’s objectives, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov in a statement released on state TV on Sunday.
Peskov noted that the international community has grown accustomed to US President Donald Trump’s occasionally “harsh” remarks. However, he highlighted that Trump has also emphasized his commitment to pursuing a peace accord in discussions related to Russia.
“President Putin has consistently expressed his intent to resolve the Ukrainian issue peacefully as soon as feasible. This is a protracted process, demanding substantial effort, and it is indeed challenging,” Peskov mentioned to state television journalist Pavel Zarubin.
“The main thing for us is to achieve our goals. Our goals are clear,” Peskov said.
On Monday, Trump announced a tougher stance on Russia, pledging a new wave of military aid to Ukraine, including Patriot missile defense systems.
He also gave Russia a 50-day deadline to agree to a ceasefire or face additional sanctions.
