The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office detectives are actively investigating a homicide that left one dead on Saturday night, July 19.
Detectives identified the victim as 18-year-old Corey Adams, an Ole Miss football player from New Orleans, Louisiana, according to a Facebook post by the Karr Cougars football team.
The shooting happened just before 10:15 p.m. outside of a residence on Fern Glade Cove in Cordova, SCSO reports.
Deputies made the scene and stopped a car at the intersection of Forest Hill-Irene and Walnut Grove, finding a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officials with SCSO provided life-saving measures until Shelby County Fire arrived. The man was later pronounced dead on the scene.
Upon arrival at Fern Glade Cove, deputies located multiple shell casings.
SCSO learned that four adult men arrived by personal cars at nearby hospitals with gunshot wounds. All four victims are listed in non-critical condition.

Ole Miss Football shared the following statement on Sunday, July 20:
“We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee. While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
“Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.”
Adams’ high school football team shared their condolences online, writing:
“Corey Adams was more than a football player. He was a friend, brother, son, student, and an all-around great young man.”
