52 indicted on drug charges in Scott County

SCOTT COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — The Scott County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday that 52 people have been indicted on a number of drug charges.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, the Scott County Grand Jury handed down 91 indictments on 52 people on June 20.

The indictments include charges of possession of a controlled substance and distribution of controlled substances, the sheriff’s office reports.

The people who were indicted live across Southwest Virginia in Scott, Wise, Dickenson, Tazewell and Washington counties. Additionally, one person from West Virginia, six from Tennessee and two from Kentucky were also indicted.

A roundup operation of those charged was conducted on July 9. According to the sheriff’s office, 15 people were arrested.

Scott County’s surrounding states and counties have reportedly received the indictments and are expected to make further arrests.

The sheriff’s office did not provide the identities of anyone facing charges.
